This event will feature the eminent German music educator, Dr. Irmgard Merkt, the founder of intercultural music education in Germany, and Dr. Patricia Shehan Campbell, one of the most prominent international scholars in multicultural music education, with questions and commentary as well from Dr. Alexandra Kertz-Welzel, on research at the nexus of ethnomusicology and education on multicultural approaches to music in schools and society. Important topics will be the role of music education in culturally diverse societies, the transformative societal potential of music (education) and the role music teacher education could play in facilitating processes of cultural dialogue and transformation.
